WS_FTP - I cannot activate the program. The activation key boxes are gray.

Question/Problem: When I launch WS_FTP (Home or Pro) I am prompted to activate the program. I cannot do so because the boxes are gray and will not allow me to enter my activation key. This is not applicable to WS_FTP Pro version 2007.0.0.2 and later. Answer/Solution: There are two steps. We are going to rename a folder and run a file. Once you have completed both steps you should be able launch WS_FTP and enter (or re-enter) your activation code. Step 1: The folder we need to rename is called E177E04D548C4006A465EEB92D3DE021 A. Navigate to C:\WINDOWS\system32\. B. Once you have located this folder, look inside it and find the sub-folder named License-DLL. Inside this folder, how many sub-folders are there? If there is only one (or none), skip to step D. C. Navigate inside each of the sub-folders. If there is a file, open it using Notepad. Read through the file (it should be short) and see what program it is for. There should be a line similar to this: ProductName=WS_FTP Professional 2007 If any of them refer to a program other than WS_FTP abort this procedure and contact tech support. D. Assuming you only have one sub-folder inside of License-DLL (or you have two but one is empty): Go back two levels higher and rename the folder named E177E04D548C4006A465EEB92D3DE021 to E177E04D548C4006A465EEB92D3DE021-OLD Step 2: Locate and execute the file named trial_rt.exe (found in the installation directory). Navigate to C:\program files\Ipswitch\WS_FTP Pro Double-click trial_rt.exe Nothing will appear to happen when you double-click it other than perhaps a brief hourglass icon. Start WS_FTP again and you should be able to enter your key.
