WS_FTP - How do I make a backup of my program

Product: Version: Platform:
WS_FTP All All

Question/Problem: How can I backup my copy of WS_FTP?

Answer/Solution: In order to back up WS_FTP, you need to save two things:

1 - the installation program
2 - your ftp sites

If you have a CD copy of the program, you don't need anything else to reinstall the program.

If you no longer have the file you downloaded when you purchased, and/or you can't burn the install program to a CD, please call Customer Service at 781-676-5700 for information regarding purchasing a CD copy of the program. (The cost will be the difference in price between the ecommerce version and the CD version plus shipping and handling.)

The files which contain your ftp sites are the files in the WS_FTP directory which have an .ini extension (i.e. original.ini). These files can be backed up onto CD if you have a CD burner. You can also backup to a zip drive if you have enough space.

Once you have a copy of the installation program and a copy of all of your .ini files, that is all you need as a backup of the WS_FTP Program.

For version 7.5 and higher, please see:
WS_FTP - My sites are gone after upgrade

In version 7.0 the .ini files are located with the user profile information on the computer so that each user can log onto a computer and view only their own pre-configured sites. The path to that location depends on the operating system.

Sites in the folder named "My Sites" will be stored in a file named original.ini.

The application data folder is hidden.
In Windows Explorer, Tools-->Folder Options
click on the "View Tab"
check "Show hidden files and folders"
It will then be viewable from Windows Explorer and from the Search Utility in Windows 2000.

On Windows 95/98/ME:
c:\windows\application data\ipswitch\ws_ftp\sites

On Windows NT:
c:\winnt\profiles\username\application data\ipswitch\ws_ftp\sites

On Windows 2000 and Windows XP:
c:\documents and settings\username\application data\Ipswitch\Ws_ftp\Sites
