WhatsUp Gold - IPX host name not resolved

Question/Problem: We are having an intermittent problem checking Novell servers with IPX. What happens is the host icon will suddenly turn red with the error "xxx:xxx (IPX address) hostname not resolved". This while the host is really up. We have to close WhatsUp Gold and restart it to correct the problem.

Answer/Solution: A test on WUG v5.01 produced "hostname not resolved" immediately. There may be a problem in the name resolution. However, this is handled by the protocol stack installed on the PC and not by WUG itself. The workaround is to:
a) Change Polling method for the host to ICMP. This will "un-gray" the address field
b) Copy the address from the address field to the Hostname field
c) Switch polling method back to IPX.
These steps will cause the name resolution process to be bypassed.
