Question/Problem: How do I uninstall Ipswitch software?

Answer/Solution: See product-specific information below.

WS_FTP Pro

Here is the easiest way to uninstall WS_FTP Pro:

From the Start menu, select Programs -> WS_FTP Pro -> WS_FTP Uninstall You can also go to Start->Settings->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs. Select WS_FTP Pro from the list and choose Remove.

Either of these methods will completely remove the program from your system. If the above options are not available, you can open the WS_FTP Pro directory and run the file named "remove32.exe".

If you have already removed the application using a method other than those described above, you may still have the shortcuts on your Desktop. You should be able to delete them if you manually removed the WS_FTP Pro directory without uninstalling the program.

If you can't remove the shortcuts and you manually deleted the WS_FTP Pro directory, you can either reinstall the program and then uninstall it using the Uninstall utility or you can remove the WS_FTP key from the Windows Registry.

In order to reinstall it, you need to have either the install CD or the ecommerce installation program named "wsftppec.exe". You can use the Find utility on the Start menu to locate it.

Here are directions for removing the WS_FTP key from the registry:

Note: If you are not confident working with your Windows Registry, PLEASE don't do this! Making a mistake while editing your Registry may render your computer unusable!

1. Back up your Registry.

2. Go to Start->Run->Regedit

3. Locate the following Registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SOFTWARE
Ipswitch
WS_FTP

4. Select the last item in the list above and press Delete.

5. Close Regedit, click on the Windows Desktop, and press F5 to refresh your
screen.

WS_FTP Server

The uninstall function removes all files associated with WS_FTP Server from your PC.

To remove WS_FTP Server:

Go to the Add/Remove Programs section of your Windows Control Panel and select Ipswitch WS_FTP Server Manager.

WhatsUp/WhatsUp Gold

The uninstall function removes all installed files associated with WhatsUp Gold from your PC, except for those that can be modified, such as:

- SERVICES.INI
- HOSTTYPE.INI
- GALLERY.INI
- MIB.TXT
- TRAPS.TXT

Both the Notification subdirectory and Web subdirectory are left untouched.

To uninstall WhatsUp Gold, you can use the Uninstall application that is installed when you install the product. To do so, click the Start button, select WhatsUp, and then select Uninstall WhatsUp Gold.

If it is not possible to restart the installer as described above, simply delete the WhatsUp or WhatsUp Gold directory (which is almost always located in c:\Program Files\WhatsUp).  This will leave behind some entries in the Windows Registry, but they will not have any adverse effects on your system. You also may delete the Ipnotify.ini file, which can be found in your Windows or WinNT folder.

IMail Server

To remove IMail Server, use the Add/Remove Programs applet in the Windows Control Panel. The following happens:

  • IMail services are removed from the Control Panel Services.
  • Everything is deleted in the Windows registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Ipswitch/IMail (but does not remove the Ipswitch key).
  • Directories and files created by setup.exe are removed if nothing has been added to them. For instance, if you haven't added any users (and root never gets mail), the Users directory is removed.

Note: Removing IMail Server as described above does not delete the IMail directory or the subdirectories and files it contains. To remove these, you must delete them manually.

IMail Server's uninstall does not remove the following files: iwebmsg.ini, imonitor.ini, and iwebcal.ini. This can cause problems with future installations. An example is if an administrator installs IMail Server in a location other than the standard C:\IMail, settings such as the web dir, ports, etc... are retained. If the administrator then installs IMail Server in the standard location, some values point to the wrong location by default.

If you are reinstalling IMail Server to a new location, these three files (iwebmsg.ini, imonitor.ini, iwebcal.ini) need to be deleted or updated.

To uninstall IMail Server versions before 6.0, restart the installation program (setup.exe) and select the option "Remove From System."  If you no longer have this file, download the software again and the setup.exe program will become available.

WS_Ping Pro Pack

Restart the installation program (normally "wsp_eval.exe" or "wsp_rel.exe") and select the option, "Remove Prior Installation."  If you no longer have this file, download the product again and the installation program will become available.

You also can simply delete the WS_Ping directory from your hard disk.  Usually it is located in C:\Program Files\WspingPR. As with WhatsUp or WhatsUp Gold, some Windows Registry entries are left behind when doing this but will not have any impact on your computer.

NOTE:  Users of the WS Ping Pro Pack 2.10 (and later versions), can now do the following: From the Start menu, select Control Panel, and then select Add/Remove Programs.

TNHOST

You can run UNTNHOST.EXE or, you can simply delete the directory where you installed the application. In addition, you can delete the following files.

If your are using the 16-bit version, delete the following files from the System directory in your Windows directory:

ww_cu200.cnt
ww_cu200.hlp
ww_mc200.hlp
ww_mc232.hlp
riched.dll
winwrap.reg
ww_be200.dll
ww_cu200.dll
ww_mc200.dll
ww_oa200.dll
sysapl.ttf
sysvt.ttf
tt0596s_.ttf
tt0597m_.ttf
tt0598m_.ttf
tt0599m_.ttf

If you are using the 32-bit version, delete these files from the System directory inside your Windows (or WinNT) directory:

ww_cu200.cnt
ww_cu200.hlp
ww_mc200.hlp
ww_mc232.hlp
winwrap.reg
ww_be232.dll
ww_cu232.dll
ww_mc232.dll
ww_oa232.dll
sysapl.ttf
sysvt.ttf
tt0596s_.ttf
tt0597m_.ttf
tt0598m_.ttf
tt0599m_.ttf

You can also back up your Windows Registry, and then delete the Registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Ipswitch\TNHOST. Note: If you are not confident working with your Windows Registry, PLEASE don't do this! Making a mistake while editing your Registry may render your computer unusable!

VT320

To uninstall VT320, you can run the utility unvt320w.exe, or, simply delete the directory where you installed the application; delete the icon or shortcut; and, if you installed the 16-bit version, in the system.ini file, under the [386Enh] section, delete the line "device=vtmem.386."
