Question/Problem: Install presented a dialog that stated, "Another setup has requested a reboot. You must reboot before you run this setup. Setup will now exit." However, after rebooting the system and re-running the install, the dialog still appears and the install can not continue.

Answer/Solution: The install attempts to insure that the system is in a stable state prior to installing the Ipswitch product. Installs use the following Registry value to "stage" file operations such as renaming temporary files and deletion of some old files:

Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager

Value: "PendingFileRenameOperations"

On system reboot, the operations in this value will be carried out. Once the file operations have been completed, the VALUE is deleted. The install looks for this value to determine if a reboot is needed. In some cases, the data in the value may remain intact and the value may not be removed following file operations. In this case, the install detects the existence of the Registry value and assumes a reboot is required.

The workaround:

Caution should be exercised for any Registry editing operations!!! The Registry is used for many system functions, and if corrupted, your system may not function properly or may be rendered inoperable. If you are not comfortable editing the Registry, we recommend that you do not perform the following steps.

1.) Start -> Run
2.) Type "regedit"
3.) Expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
4.) Navigate to the "SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager key
5.) Locate the "PendingFileRenameOperations" value (see the right pane in RegEdit)
6.) Right-Click on "PendingFileRenameOperations" and rename it to "PendingFileRenameOperations_1"
7.) Click off the value name for the edit box to close
8.) Re-run the Ipswitch install. If instructed to reboot at the end of the install you should do so.
9.) Repeat steps 1-4 and rename the "PendingFileRenameOperations_1" value (created in step 6) to "PendingFileRenameOperations" to restore the original system state.
